Easter Eggstravaganza at FH church

Forest Hills Community Church is pleased to announce its first-ever “Easter Eggstravaganza” egg hunt and festival.

The Easter Eggstravaganza is free and open to families with children 13 and under. All children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the event. MacDonald Park is located on Queens Boulevard and Yellowstone Boulevard at 70th Road. The event will begin at 11 a.m. and conclude at 1 p.m.

“We’re a church that cares deeply about families and children in our neighborhood,” said founding Pastor Jeremy Sweeten. “Typically, churches and religious institutions forget that a relationship with God is to lead to fellowship and community, not to isolationism. Our desire and goal is to bring the community together around one central point: God’s love. Conducting an Easter Egg Hunt is simply a way to bring the community together and show the love of God in a fun and celebratory way.”

In addition to an Egg Hunt, the Easter Bunny will be making an appearance for free photos. Parents can also enjoy cotton candy, egg painting, Easter-themed arts and crafts, face painting, and a kid-friendly telling of the Easter story.

Vallone visits Fire Company

Council Member Peter F. Vallone Jr. met with Astoria’s FDNY Engine Company 262 for a first-hand briefing from firefighters. The city has proposed to close 20 fire companies this year, up from the 16 that were slated to shut down last year before they were saved by the City Council during budget negotiations.

“It’s important for people to recognize that firefighters are no longer just fighting fires. They are inspecting buildings for fire safety, checking fire hydrants and responding to medical emergencies, all of which have resulted in thousands of saved lives,” Vallone said.

Astoria’s s Engine Company 262, located on 21st Street and 30th Avenue, currently does not face any cuts, however many of the firefighters warned response times to fires and other emergencies will suffer.

Vallone has echoed the firefighters warning, “Seconds count when it comes to saving lives.”
