Con Ed offers enery rebates

Con Edison is offering customers rebates and other incentives to reduce energy usage this summer. The company has also invested $1.2 billion in upgrades to its electric delivery system to ensure reliable service in the coming months.

Con Edison plans to lower electric demand by 500 megawatts, enough to power a half-million homes, by 2015 as part of the city and state’s energy-reduction goals.

Earlier this year, Con Edison launched $223 million in new energy-savings programs to help customers reduce their energy usage, and to help cut their monthly bills. Over 4,600 homes and small businesses have already enrolled. A $30 rebate is available to customers who purchase Energy Star room air conditioners. Applications are available at www.coned.com/roomacrebates.

“We want people to have the lighting and cooling they need to live comfortably this summer, while using less electricity to get both,” said Kevin Burke, chairman and chief executive officer of Con Edison. “Investing in our energy infrastructure is still vital, but investing in energy efficiency programs to help customers cut their energy use is also important for system reliability, sustainability, and the environment.”

Con Edison is offering homeowners $200 to $600 in rebates for installing energy-efficient heating and air conditioning equipment and free programmable thermostats for central air-conditioning systems.

For apartments, condos, and co-ops (five to 50 units), free surveys are available to evaluate building common areas and individual units for lighting, cooling and heating efficiency improvements. There are also incentives for new Energy Star refrigerators and air conditioners, and free recycling of old, inefficient refrigerators and air conditioners.

Small businesses are offered free energy surveys, free upgrades such as CFLs and water-heater thermostats, incentives up to 70 percent for lighting, heating, and

cooling upgrades and free programmable thermostats for central air-conditioning systems. Large commercial and industrial customers are allowed partial funding for the energy study and rebates and performance-based incentives for high-efficiency

equipment.
