Dr. Nate Bondi
Dr. Nate Bondi, “an icon in Corona and Flushing,” passed away on Friday, July 16. He was 77 years old.
The orthopedic surgeon who resided in Bayside and was born in Flushing, worked until the week before his passing, a testament, say employees and colleagues, to his love of his profession and patients.
“He was one of the brightest orthopedic surgeons you’d ever come across,” said long-time friend and colleague, Dr. Robert Goldstein.
The two graduated from New York Medical College together in 1962.
“His motto,” explained Goldstein, “was ‘Happiness is giving’ and he gave to everyone.”
“He was always able to help everyone,” continued Goldstein. “His patients miss him.”
Aside from a 50-year career as a physician, with offices in New York and Flushing, Bondi was a star athlete in track and football while in high school; he loved the track, tennis and golf.
“He was a wonderful man, revered by everyone, who cared about everyone in his life,” said employees.
Bondi is survived by his wife, Emily.
Arrangements were handled by Lloyd’s Funeral Home; interment was at Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Matthew A. Sabatello
Matthew A. Sabatello, a retired FDNY captain of Engine 240, passed away.
Beloved husband of Anna. Devoted father of Lucia, Laura and Michael. Dear stepfather of Theodore, Cynthia and Matthew. Loving brother of Mary Panek and the late Angelo Sabatello.
Proud grandfather of Nicholas, Sarah, Christopher, Rachel, Michael, Paul, Lily and Griffin.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Martin A. Gleason Funeral Home in Whitestone. A Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Kevin R.C. Church on July 27. Interment was at Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery.
