With all the budget cuts that are going to have to be made in these hard economic times, one place where no budget cuts should be made is in the field of education.
Teachers in this country work hard to provide the best education possible to their students under some of the most difficult conditions possible. Classroom overcrowding, unruly and disruptive students, lack of administrative support, lack of teaching materials necessary to help formulate and drive instruction and, in some cases, parents who are difficult to deal with are several elements teachers have to cope with.
It is disconcerting to hear that nearly 100,000 teachers nationwide may be losing their jobs due to the poor economy. Teachers should and must be paid decent livable wages and also must be treated with the utmost professional courtesy and respect.
The education system is the backbone for molding students into respectable citizens. Let’s strengthen it rather than weaken and deplete it.
