Two arrested in near-fatal beating, robbery
Two men have been arrested in connection with beating a pizza delivery man into a coma during a robbery.
Jorge Paret, 28, and Anardo Batista, 23, are charged with attempted murder, robbery, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of stolen property after they allegedly ordered a pizza, jumped the victim, 27-year-old Victor Mejia de los Santos, and beat him unconscious with a baseball bat on Friday, November 5.
The pair then allegedly stole his motorized scooter and cash. Police canvassed the area and arrested the pair. Reports claim that three other bikes were found, and police believe Paret and Batista have done it before.
De los Santos, originally from Mexico, suffered a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where he remained in a coma on Monday, November 8.
