Queens woman killed in Long Island City

A Queens mother was killed by the flower toting father of her two sons while she was working at a Long Island City pharmacy.

Guimmia Villia, 32, was taken to Mt. Sinai hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival on Thursday, February 10.

The suspect, Alex Figueroa, who had been bearing a bouquet of flowers when he arrived at the Crescent Chemists, was later found dead by police with a self-afflicted gun shot wound to his head.

According to a Daily News report, Villia had filed two orders of protection against Figueroa and was confronted by him at her job last week. Figueroa and Villia had two children together.

Assemblymember Grace Meng and State Senator Toby Ann Stavisky have proposed two bills that would toughen punishments for those who violate court orders of protection.

“New York State must do more to protect these victims,” said Meng. “If they can not faithfully depend on a court-ordered protection order, then what can they depend on?”
