Recycle flip-flops on Earth Day

Beginning on Earth Day, TerraCycle recycling company and Old Navy will partner up to have in-store recycle collections of used flip flops that shoppers can donate to help build playgrounds.

The month-long drive, starting Friday, April 22, encourages the community to participate in recycling acts by depositing used flip flops into collection bins that will be placed inside Old Navy stores across the nation.

TerraCycle will then recycle the donated shoes into public playgrounds that will be donated to four communities in the country. This effort is the first time that a nationwide retailer has started a large-scale effort to collect and recycle flip flops.

TerraCycle, Inc. collects non-recyclable or hard-to-recycle items and uses them to create eco-friendly products.

Founded in 2001, it is the leading organization in the collection and reuse of non-recyclable used items. The company also has Brigade programs that organize free fundraisers and pay schools and non-profits for every piece collected and recycled.
