16th annual sand castle contest at Rockaway Beach

Always wanted to build a castle with beachfront views? Now’s your chance.
The 16th annual sand castle contest at Rockaway Beach will take place on Sunday, July 31 from noon to 2 p.m. at Beach 118th Street.
Contestants are invited to bring their castle crafting tools – pails, shovels, putty knives, melon balers, plastic kitchen utensils, paint scrapers – and their imagination.
West End Realty, the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation and HSBC Bank USA are sponsoring the event.
Prospective contestants are invited to pre-register now at the office of West End Realty at 209 Beach 116th Street in Rockaway Park, or submit their name and desired entry category via fax to West End Realty at 718-634-0075. Registration will also take place the day of the event from 10 a.m. to noon.
Trophies and prizes will be awarded in four categories:
– Ages 1 through 8, with an adult
– Ages 9 through 13 with an adult
– Ages 9 through 13 without an adult
– 14 years and up
