Aqueduct adds more permanent jobs

As the nation focuses on the debt ceiling and Nassau County rejects another Coliseum proposal, Queens continues to improve its future with more potential jobs for residents.

Resorts World Casino New York City (RWNY) and the New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) have reached an agreement for the developer of the Aqueduct Racino in South Ozone Park to operate all food and beverage venues at the racetrack.

With the addition of these outlets, RWNY adds 141 full-time positions from management level to frontline staff – this brings the total number of permanent jobs for the project to 1,291.

Michael Speller, president of RWNY, said that this partnership with NYRA will create even more jobs that will help bolster the immediate community surrounding the racetrack.

“The partnership we have with NYRA is made even stronger by this new collaboration,” he said. “Together we are committed to creating an extraordinary entertainment experience in Queens and to improving the neighborhood we call home. With Resorts World coming on line at Aqueduct, we can offer more employment opportunities for job applicants and better serve the Queens community and our visitors alike.”

According to RWNY, the gaming giant has received more than 18,000 applications for permanent employment as of late July – with more than 75 percent submitted by local Queens residents. A spokesperson for RWNY said that the new food and beverage outlets that the casino will operate at Aqueduct opens the door to even more residents looking for work – and this can only benefit the surrounding area.

NYRA president and CEO Charles Hayward said that he welcomes RWNY into the fold and visitors will be more than pleased with what they bring to Aqueduct’s racing experience.

“We are thrilled to continue working with Resorts World to improve our racetracks and our community,” said Hayward. “This is an exciting transformation for a Queens institution and we are happy to offer our visitors – old and new – an enhanced racing experience along with much-needed employment opportunities.”
