Vallone plays for concert audience

Councilmember Peter F. Vallone Jr. “opad” onto the stage during Greek Night at Athens Square Park.
The councilmember joined Greek American rock band Iskandar during their concert on August 23 for a lively rendition of Deep Purple’s “Smoke on the Water.”
Vallone, who is an avid musician, played bass during the song.
“It is always fun to sit in with great musicians,” said Vallone. “I haven’t played ‘Smoke on the Water’ since high school.”
Iskandar’s show was the first Greek rock concert held at Athens Square Park, located at 30th Avenue and 30th Street in Astoria.
The performance, which lasted from 7 until 9 p.m., was organized by the Athens Square Park Committee and the Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater NY Inc.
