Martin Zias, 83, of Bayside, died Oct. 22 at his home surrounded by family. He was 83.
Born in Brooklyn May 12, 1928, he was the son of the late Belle Lidsky Zias and Benjamin Zias, and was a lifelong resident of New York City.
Zias graduated from Long Island University in 1951 and was a psychotherapist in a private practice for 25 years before retiring and engaging in consultation as a clinical therapist. He owned and operated a clinical psychological counseling center in Bayside, where he was a dedicated therapist who worked to help his patients redirect their lives with positive results.
He served in the military at the end of World War II in Korea and Japan. He traveled widely in Europe, South America and Asia. He was an ardent sports fan, particularly of the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Jets.
Zias was the devoted husband and of Renee Lopez Zias for 23 years. Besides his wife Renee, he is survived by his sister Gloria, son Kerry of Israel, daughter Robin of San Diego, three step-children, three grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.
