Undercover police will dress as Giants fans at game
The 49ers and the NFL have adopted extraordinary security measures for Sunday’s NFC Championship against the Giants after opposing fans complained of harassment last week. More security cameras and undercover police officers will be in place to identify abusive fans. San Francisco undercover police will be dressed in Giants’ garb and on the lookout for unruly fans, and Giants ticketholders will be handed a card as they enter with details on how to contact police if they feel threatened. 9/11 film’s ‘Incredibly’ insensitive burning tower ad by WTC
Critics of a subway ad for a new 9/11 movie say the campaign hits incredibly close to home. For one thing, the video promotions show the burning Twin Towers. Secondly, the video ads are playing mere yards from where the towers fell. “We lost 10 guys that day,” said a firefighter from Ladder 9 in the East Village. “I won’t go see it. Etta James, legendary singer of ‘At Last,’ is dead at 73 in California
Etta James, the singer who made “At Last” a classic and became one of the last survivors from early rock ‘n’ roll’s pantheon of soaring divas, died Friday in California, her manager said. She was 73. She had been battling leukemia and dementia. Her final stage performances came in early 2010. James died at Riverside Community Hospital from complications of leukemia, with her husband and two sons at her side, her manager, Lupe De Leon said. Read More: Daily News
Obama Raises At Least $3 Million In Manhattan
President Barack Obama’s quick jaunt to Manhattan Thursday netted his re-election bid at least $3 million. “If you keep on believing, we’ll finish what we started in 2008. Change will come. If you fight with me and press on with me, I promise you change will come,” said Obama. The biggest event was at the Apollo Theater. He kept to his stump speech themes: the economy is better, but not good enough. “I am here tonight not just because I need your help, I’m here because your country needs your help,” said Obama. MTA Begins 7 Train Disruptions This Weekend
Weekend 7 train riders will have to find another way in and out of Manhattan until spring as a big subway maintenance project is set to begin tomorrow. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is making station, track and tunnel improvements to the Flushing line for the next 11 weekends. From 12:01 a.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. Monday, 7 trains won’t run between Times Square and Queensboro Plaza. Service east of Queensboro Plaza will not be affected. Read More: NY1
