‘Turnaround’ Forum Now 4/18
The Department of Education’s (DOE) public hearing on the proposed “turnaround” plan for Richmond Hill High School, originally scheduled for Apr. 5, has been moved to Apr. 18.
The meeting will take place at the school, located at 89-30 114th St., at 6 p.m.
The original proposal, unveiled Mar. 5, has the school being closed at the end of this school year in favor of a new school that will open at the site. Students in Richmond Hill would have a guaranteed seat in the new high school and be automatically enrolled.
“By closing Richmond Hill and replacing it with [a new school], the DOE is seeking to expeditiously improve educational quality” at the site, the agency said in a statement.
Seven other Queens high schools-August Martin, Bryant, Flushing, Grover Cleveland, John Adams, Long Island City and Newtown- will also be the subject of similar public hearings on the turnaround plan. The dates and times of those meetings were listed in the Mar. 8 issue of the Times Newsweekly.

The Panel for Educational Policy will vote on the proposed plans for all Queens high schools, as well as various other schools throughout New York City, at its Apr. 26 meeting at the Prospect Heights Campus, at 883 Classon Ave. in Brooklyn.
