Hospital Receives ‘Save-A-Life’ Donation
New York Hospital Queens in Flushing has appointed four new members to its Community Advisory Council (CAC).
The CAC is a group of business, civic, religious and community leaders who assist administration and the board of trustees in development, public affairs, community and government relations in the operation of New York Hospital Queens by making recommendations for improvement of the facilities and programs of the hospital.
Frank Macchio, chairman of the CAC, introduced the new members at the March CAC meeting. They include:
– Joseph F. Lisa, retired New York State Supreme Court Justice, who received his judicial degree from St. John’s Law School and legal law masters from Brooklyn Law School. He has held numerous professional and public service positions including; appointment to Chief of Appeals, Bureau of the Queens District Attorney, elected judge of the civil court of the City of New York and elected justice of the State Supreme Court. He served as a member of the Assembly for seven years and a member of the New York City Council for nine years.
– Ashook Kumar Ramsaran was born in Guyana to parents from India. Ramsaran moved to the United States in 1968. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Polytechnic University in Manhattan and is the president and chief operating officer of Ramex, Inc. located in College Point. Ramex designs and manufactures intercommunication and signaling systems utilized in healthcare, transportation and penitentiary organizations. He also serves as the executive vice president of the Global Organization of People of Indian Origin.
– Jeffrey Rosenstock received a bachelor’s degree in literature and creative writing at Harpur College in Binghamton. He has worked in the theater in various management positions including most recently as executive director of Queens Theatre in the Park. He is credited for transforming the theater at the New York State Pavilion of the 1964 World’s Fair in Flushing Meadows Corona Park into the borough’s premier performing arts center. In 2011, he became the institutional development and major gifts officer at Queens College.
– Linna Yu is a member of Community Board 7 and the Flushing YMCA’s board of directors. She serves the community in many capacities including as a member of the city Board of Education Chancellor’s Asian Pacific American Advisory Council. She received her bachelor’s degree in Taiwan and a masters degree in Library Science at Vanderbilt University. She is a past branch library manager of Queens Borough Public Library and has received numerous awards including “Woman of the Year” by former Mayor David Dinkins.
Also at the CAC meeting, member Terence Park, who is a parishioner of the First United Methodist Church in Flushing, introduced the senior pastor of the church, Dr. Reverend Dongil Chang and Elder Henry Kong. The church leaders presented the hospital with a $5,000 donation from the church for the hospital’s Save-A-Life Campaign.
The Save-A-Life Campaign was initiated by the Women’s Auxiliary and CAC to raise money to purchase cardiac equipment for the hospital ambulances. Each top-of-the-line cardiac monitor/defibrillator is designed to bring the Emergency Room physician- virtually- to the patient.
Vital signs, heart rhythms (ECG) and other important information are wirelessly sent to the receiving hospital. The physician can view the information from a computer monitor at the hospital and give direct guidance to the paramedics and EMTs before the patient reaches the hospital.
