Maspeth Man Busted For Attacking His Wife
Detectives cuffed a Maspeth man last Friday, June 1, for allegedly pouring a flammable liquid on his wife and threatening to set her on fire during a domestic dispute outside her home on Memorial Day, it was reported.
Police identified the suspect as 44-year-old Michael Sciabica of Maspeth Avenue.
According to information provided by the Queens District Attorney’s office, the trouble began at around 7:20 p.m. last Monday night, May 28, along 60th Lane between 60th Drive and Eliot Avenue in Maspeth.
Reportedly, Sciabica confronted his wife on the street, and the two became embroiled in a verbal dispute.
The encounter was in violation of a valid order of protection issued against the suspect earlier in the month prohibiting him from contacting the victim in any way, according to the criminal complaint.
As the victim turned around and walked away, law enforcement sources said, Sciabica allegedly threatened to pour acid on her. At that moment, it was reported, the victim was doused with a substance that smelled of gasoline which stung the woman’s eyes and skin.
After verbally threatening to light the victim on fire, authorities noted, Sciabica fled from the scene.
Officers from the 104th Precinct responded to the location. The woman was not seriously injured.
Following an investigation by the 104th Precinct Detective Squad, Sciabica was taken into custody last Friday and charged with secondand third-degree assault, criminal contempt, criminal possession of a weapon and menacing.
Court records indicated that the suspect arraigned the following day in Queens Criminal Court before Judge Pauline Mullings, who ordered him held on $50,000 bail. He is scheduled to return to court on June 15
