Numerous Queens residents were honored for their contributions toward enriching the lives of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) individuals in the borough during Queens Borough President Helen Marshall’s 11th annual Pride Month Celebration at Queens Borough Hall in Kew Gardens last Wednesday, June 27. As noted, various elected officials including City Council Members Jimmy Van Bramer and Daniel Dromm and State Sen. Jose Peralta participated in the event. Among those honored at the celebration-as shown with Marshall, Dromm, Peralta and Van Bramer-were Chris Calvett, co-chair of the Queens Pride organization; Therese Rodriguez, chief executive officer of the Asian & Pacific Islander Coalition on HIV and AIDS; Anne Quashen, president of Queens Chapter of Parents, Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays; Patricio Valencia, supervisor, education specialist at AIDS Center of Queens County; Chap James Day, Multicultural Festival Committee chair, Queens Pride; Rocky Sanabria, student; Janice Velton and Pat Pfirman; Scott Quasha, Assistant Adjunct Professor, Brooklyn College; and Mark Christie, community activist.
