Firefighters rushed to extinguish a fire that broke out inside an Elmhurst apartment house on Monday afternoon, Aug. 27, it was reported. According to Fire Department sources, the one-alarm blaze ignited at around 12:05 p.m. on the fifth-floor of the six story building on Calloway Street near 59th Avenue. Responding to the scene (in the order of their arrival) were members of Engine companies 324, 289, 287 and 305; Ladder companies 138, 136, 151 and 117; Squad Co. 252; Rescue 4 and Battalions 46 and 52- under the direction of Division 14-along with the 110th Precinct and EMS units. There were no reported injuries. Two hose lines were used by firefighters to bring the blaze under control, an FDNY source said.
