Jump Saves Kids From Glendale Fire

With no other way out of their burning Glendale home, three children made a lifesaving leap out of a secondfloor window during a one-alarm blaze that ignited early on Tuesday morning, Aug. 28, it was reported.

Three children and four firefighters were injured at a fire at a Glendale home on Tuesday morning, Aug. 28.

The children were rushed to local hospitals for treatment of injuries which were not considered life threatening. Four firefighters were also hospitalized after suffering minor injuries while battling the in- ferno.

According to Fire Department sources, the fire ignited at around 12:20 a.m. Tuesday in the rear of a two-story home on 66th Street near 70th Avenue.

Responding to the scene (in the order of their arrival) were members of Engine companies 286, 319, 271 and 291; Ladder companies 135, 140 and 124; Squad Co. 252; Rescue 4 and Battalions 28 and 37-under the direction of Division 14-along with the 104th Precinct and EMS units.

Members of the American Red Cross of Greater New York were also on the scene to provide shelter assistance to those displaced by the fire.

Using one hose line, firefighters brought the blaze under control about a half-hour after it started, FDNY sources stated.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by FDNY marshals, it was noted.
