Over 400 bicycle helmets were handed out to children and families by City Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer and the city Department of Transportation (DOT) at the Woodside Houses last Saturday, Sept. 15. As noted, the giveaway is part of an effort to promote cycling safety. Van Bramer allocated $3,500 for the purchase of the safety equipment. Recycle-a-Bicycle was also on hand to swap children’s old bicycles for refurbished, better-fitting upgrades. Adjustments and safety checks of bicycles were also performed during the event. As noted, this was the first of three bicycle helmet giveaways planned by Van Bramer in his district scheduled to take place in the weeks and months to come.
