Local Biz Leaders Are Feted at Gala

The Queens Library Foundation will host its annual gala on Monday, Oct. 22, from 5:30 to 10 p.m. at Water’s Edge, located on the East River at 44th Drive in Long Island City.

Honorees at this year’s event will be Dominick Ciampa, chairman of the Board of New York Community Bancorp, Inc. and Ken Daly, president of National Grid New York.

Proceeds from the gala will support the Futures Fund, an endowment ensuring availability of library materials, educational and intellectual development resources for the children who attend the Queens Borough Public Library (QPBL). The Gala Committee is chaired by Joseph R. Ficalora, president and CEO of New York Community Bancorp, Inc.

Ciampa has been a member of the Board of Directors of the New York Community Bancorp, Inc. and New York Community Bank since 1995, and of New York Commercial Bank since its establishment in 2005. A partner in the Ciampa Organization, a Queens-based real estate development firm, Ciampa served as chairman of the Mortgage and Real Estate Committee of the Community Bank Board from 2003 through 2010, and as a member of the Credit Committee of the Commercial Bank Board from 2006 through 2010.

He has been on the Board of the Queens Library Foundation since 2005. Ciampa also served on the divisional board of the Catholic Medical Center. He is a past president of the Queens Borough Chamber of Commerce and a founder and past president of the Forest Park Trust and the Queens County Builders and Contractors Association.

Daly joined National Grid’s predecessor, Brooklyn Union, which later became KeySpan, in 1988 as a management trainee and has spent most of his 25 years with the company in its New York business. He graduated from the Queens campus of St. John’s University with an MBA in Finance and earned both a BA in English from St. Francis College and an MS in Human Resource Management from New York University. He also achieved the distinguished Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2002.

Daly’s team is active in many Queens business and community organizations including serving on the board of directors for the Queens Chamber of Commerce and the Alley Pond Environmental Center, as well as providing energy efficiency assistance and STEM book donations for the Queens Library’s new Children’s Library Discovery Center. He has been the director of the St. John’s University Executive-in-Residence Program since 1992, providing reallife business experience to hundreds of graduate students on its Queens campus.

Daly is a member of the Saint Francis College Board of Trustees and has been an adjunct professor there for 20 years. He is the past Chairman of the Kingsborough Community College Board of Directors and a former member of the Junior Achievement Board of Directors. . Daly is also a member of the David Rockefeller Fellows Program and a member of the British American Business Council Board.
