Rehearsing Terror Response on Boardwalk

More noted for its showdowns with gangsters in Atlantic City in the 1920s, the set of the HBO drama Boardwalk Empire in Greenpoint, Brooklyn served as the venue for a training exercise by the NYPD Emergency Services Unit last week. With the permission of the show’s producers, the boardwalk set-complete with storefronts replicating how Atlantic City appeared in the Prohibition era-was used by police to replicate a response to a hostage situation involving armed terrorists and a wounded police officer. Shown above are ESU officers taking their positions at the “Ritz Carlton Hotel,” which is prominently featured in Boardwalk Empire.
