More noted for its showdowns with gangsters in Atlantic City in the 1920s, the set of the HBO drama Boardwalk Empire in Greenpoint, Brooklyn served as the venue for a training exercise by the NYPD Emergency Services Unit last week. With the permission of the show’s producers, the boardwalk set-complete with storefronts replicating how Atlantic City appeared in the Prohibition era-was used by police to replicate a response to a hostage situation involving armed terrorists and a wounded police officer.
