More than 400 bicycle helmets were distributed to children and families at the Ravenswood Houses in Long Island City by City Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer last Saturday, Oct. 13. As noted, this was third bicycle helmet giveaway conducted by Van Bramer in his Council district in recent weeks. The giveaways were funded in part through funding allocated by Van Bramer to the Department of Transportation as part of an effort to promote cycling safety. During last Saturday’s giveaway, workers from Recycle-a-Bicycle were on hand to perform safety inspections on bicycles, make necessary adjustments and even swapped children’s old bicycles for refurbished upgrades.
