Pumpkins At R’wood Landmark

Seasonal Fare At Onderdonk House

Fall officially began on Sept. 21, but Ridgewood will celebrate its arrival this coming Sunday, Oct. 7, with the Greater Ridgewood Historical Society’s (GRHS) annual Harvest Festival at the Vander Ende-Onderdonk House.

As announced, the festivities will take place from noon to 4 p.m. at the landmark Onderdonk House, located at 1820 Flushing Ave. Admission is $3 per adult; all children 12 years of age and under are admitted free.

Youngsters will get a chance to pick up their favorite gourd at a pumpkin patch set up on the Onderdonk House lawn. Free pumpkins are available to the first 500 children in attendance.

If pumpkin picking is not their thing, children can enjoy a host of other activities at the Harvest Festival such as face painting, crafts, games and rides.

Guests of all ages can enjoy watching apple cider being made through an old-fashioned press, take a tour of the historic Onderdonk House or take part in a demonstration of candle making during colonial times.

Musicians from the Joe Fuoco Music Center will be on hand to entertain guests. Raffles and a variety of refreshments will also be available. demonstrations, paper folding and jack-o-lantern creations and seed plantings. The pumpkin patch will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. or while supplies last.
