Man Takes Deadly Plunge Off Elmhurst Mall Balcony

In the view of numerous shoppers, a 35-year-old man took a deadly plunge off a third-floor balcony at the Queens Center Mall in Elmhurst last Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 27, in an apparent suicide, according to police.

The man’s identity was withheld by the NYPD pending family notification.

Law enforcement sources said the man was seen on surveillance camera jumping over the railing off the thirdfloor balcony in the Macy’s wing of the mall located on Queens Boulevard near 90th Street at around 1 p.m. last Wednesday.

The man reportedly landed on the floor of the concourse level next to a Baby Gap store. No bystanders were injured as a result of the impact.

Members of the 110th Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene. The man was rushed by paramedics to Elmhurst Hospital Center, when he was pronounced dead on arrival.

There were no signs of foul play, but an investigation is ongoing, police said.
