Big Reward Offered to Help Find Lefrak Killer

Appeal For Tips In Year-Old Homicide

City Council Member Daniel Dromm and State Sen. Jose Peralta are urging local residents to help solve a murder that took place one year ago in the LeFrak City apartment complex in Corona.

City Council Member Daniel Dromm (at podium) called for tips last Friday, Apr. 19, in an unsolved murder case at the LeFrak City apartment complex. Shown at the press conference are (from left to right) Debra Greene, mother of the murder victim, Theodore Greene; State Sen. Jose Peralta and Russell Smith, a friend of Theodore Greene.

On Friday, Apr. 20, 2012 at approximately 5 a.m., Theodore Malcolm Greene was shot and killed by an unknown perpetrator in front of 98-25 Horace Harding Expwy., but the person(s) responsible for the crime is still at-large.

“We have not forgotten that the individual(s) responsible for the murder of Theodore Greene is still roaming our streets,” said Dromm. “We will continue to work together as a community to make sure that the killer is finally brought to justice.”

“Guns are a plague in some Queens communities and I will continue my fight to get them off of our streets and to put violent gun criminals in jail,” added Peralta. “But to put Theodore Greene’s killer away, we need your help. We need anyone with information to step forward. As a community, we need to denounce gun violence and come together and help police however we can.”

“The untimely death of Theodore Malcolm Greene is a tragedy that no family should ever have to experience,” City Council Member Julissa Ferreras stated. “This is just one more unfortunate example of why our streets need to be free of gun violence.”

The reward for any information leading to the arrest or conviction of the perpetrator is listed at $22,000 of which the Mayor’s office will pay $10,000, the NYPD will pay $10,000 and Crime Stoppers will pay up to $2,000.

Another $2,000 in private donations is being pledged, bringing the reward total to $24,000. Of these new funds being pledged, Dromm is contributing $1,000 while Peralta helped secure $500 from the Bogopa Service Corporation. An additional $500 is being pledged from an anonymous donor.

“It is up to our community to do everything it can to help the NYPD help catch the killer,” Dromm said. “By increasing the reward amount, we are sending a strong message that we are not giving up on our search.”

Anyone with any information regarding the homicide that could prove helpful is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS; all calls will be kept strictly confidential.
