Say Man Tried To Lure Girls In Ridgewood

Twice in recent weeks, a man riding around in a sports utility vehicle has reportedly tried to lure young girls off the street in Ridgewood on school days, and police are asking the public’s help in tracking down the suspect believed to be responsible for both incidents.

Law enforcement sources on Tuesday, Apr. 23, released details about the incidents and the suspect, who is described as a white male in his 40s believed to be bald who was observed operating a black SUV.

According to authorities, the first incident took place at around 8:30 a.m. on Apr. 12 in front of a location on Seneca Avenue between Weirfield and Halsey streets. The second occurred six days later at around 1:40 p.m. last Thursday, Apr. 18, in the vicinity of Fairview Avenue and Stanhope Street.

In both incidents, police said, the suspect drove up to the girls as they walked on the street and attempted to get them to enter his vehicle. The girls did not comply with him and reported the incidents to parents.

The 104th Precinct received a report of the luring attempt on Seneca Avenue onApr. 13, a day after the incident took place. The Fairview Avenue caper was reportedly submitted to police on Monday, Apr. 22.

Each case was presented to the 104th Precinct Detective Squad for further investigation, police said.

Members of the public are urged to remind children not to approach strangers and to call 911 immediately if approached by any suspicious individuals.
