Deadly Turn On Elmhurst/J.H. Border

Only steps from her home, a 75-year-old woman was struck and killed by a turning car on the Elmhurst/Jackson Heights border on Sunday afternoon, May 12, law enforcement sources said.

The victim was identified by authorities as Elba Granizo of Elmhurst Avenue in Elmhurst.

Reportedly, the accident occurred at 1:15 p.m. Sunday in the vicinity of Roosevelt Avenue and 90th Street, about two blocks away from Granizo’s residence.

According to information obtained by police, Granizo was attempting to cross Roosevelt Avenue when she was hit by a 1998 Dodge operated by a 75-year-old man as it was making a turn from southbound 90th Street.

The driver reportedly remained at the scene following the accident.

Members of the 115th Precinct and EMS units responded to the location. Granizo was rushed by paramedics to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

No charges were filed against the driver, and no criminality is suspected.

An inquiry by the NYPD Accident Investigation Squad is ongoing, police said.
