His Last Ride on L. I. C. Road

A Ridgewood man was killed on Tuesday night, May 14, when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a tree in Long Island City, police reported.

The victim was identified by law enforcement sources as Daniel Nieves, 32, of Fairview Avenue. According to published reports, he was an employee of the city Department of Sanitation.

Reportedly, the accident occurred just before 10 p.m. last Tuesday at the corner of Vernon Boulevard and 31st Avenue in the Ravenswood section of Long Island City.

According to information obtained by police, Nieves was riding a black 2011 Suzuki motorcycle north- bound on Vernon Boulevard when he suddenly lost control of his ride and slammed into a tree.

Members of the 114th Precinct and EMS units rushed to the scene. Nieves was transported by paramedics to Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

An inquiry by the NYPD Accident Investigation Squad is ongoing, police said.
