Honoring True Heroes at Memorial Day Events

Veterans of wars past and president-and those who gave their lives so the nation might live-were saluted by communities across the Times Newsweekly’s coverage through a host of parades and ceremonies held during Memorial Day weekend. As shown in the top photo, Marines marched with hundreds of others along Grand Avenue on Sunday, May 26, during the Maspeth Memorial Day Parade. At left, members of the Allied Veterans Memorial Committee of Ridgewood and Glendale led the way during their Memorial Day march along Myrtle Avenue through both neighborhoods on Monday. The Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation led residents in their own Memorial Day ceremony at Forest Parkway plaza last Thursday, May 23, as shown in the bottom left photo. Mayor Michael Bloomberg is pictured in the bottom right photo walking with Diana Taylor along Metropolitan Avenue during the Forest Hills Memorial Day Parade on Sunday.
