R’wood Students Teach Seniors

City Council Member Elizabeth Crowley connected Grover Cleveland High School students with local senior citizens for a 21st Century Technology Seminar hosted by Crowley at the Middle Village Adult Center last Thursday, Oct. 2. Seventy-five seniors and thirty high school students participated in the seminar. The seniors were paired with student volunteers, who provided handson tutorials on how to use different varieties of smart phones, tablets, e-readers and mp3 players. The center’s computer program coordinator also provided a workshop on basic computer skills and frequently asked questions. The student volunteers were all members of the Academy of Information Technology, which is a college and career readiness academy within the STEM Academy at the Ridgewood high school. Crowley allocated $26,000 for services at the Middle Village Adult Center in this year’s budget.
