Cavo has closed.

The upscale Mediterranean-themed restaurant and dance club that was a hot spot in Astoria nightlife for more than 17 years closed its doors for good following its New Year’s Eve party billed as “The Last Dance.” The club’s owners decided not to renew their lease because the rent was rising.

The 10,000-square-foot space was renowned for special events such as the annual Valentine’s Day party with a rose-petal-strewn dance floor and long-stemmed roses for the ladies, Halloween bashes promoted as Cavoween, fashion shows and belly dancing nights. The club also featured two 20-foot waterfalls, circular chandeliers and outdoor seating in a garden patio.
