Get out and enjoy the brisk autumn air as well as these upcoming events.

GET TESTED AND VACCINATED

Before doing anything in person, get tested for COVID-19 and get vaccinated and boosted! Also, don’t forget to wear your mask indoors and socially distance wherever possible.

To slow the spread of COVID-19, the New York City Department of Health suggests getting tested often. Here is where you can find several places in Queens to get tested this weekend:

Saturday, Oct. 15

Intro to Yoga: Forward Bends and Twists (Queensbridge Park)

Interested in yoga with a riverside view? Enjoy the basics of yoga with instructor Sayde Wilson. Classes are held outside, and will meet in front of the Queensbridge Park House 10 minutes prior to start time. Yoga mats and blocks will be provided. (Vernon Blvd, Long Island City. Free. 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.)

Abolitionist’s Plant Walk (MOMA PS1)

Join multidisciplinary artist and activist Jackie Sumell for a walk through Long Island City to explore the connection between nature and abolition. Learn how plants have been part of the resistance, communicating freedom and liberation, and explore the hierarchical linguistic threads between ecological biases and human biases. (MOMA PS1: 22-25 Jackson Avenue Long Island City. 10 a.m.)

National Chemistry Week Celebration (Hall of Science)

National Chemistry Week (NCW) is a public awareness campaign that promotes the value of chemistry in everyday life. Join the Hall of Science for this year’s theme, “Fabulous Fibers: The Chemistry of Fabrics,” where the American Chemical Society will host a free event from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Spooky Szn Group Art Show (Tin Roof Gallery)

The Tin Roof Gallery is celebrating their 1 year anniversary with ghoulishly talented artists. They will highlight the beauty of horror, dark fantasy, mystery, and the supernatural. Althea of Althea’s Tropical Delights is serving delicious West Indian food and island-inspired rum cakes that will leave you addicted. Friday and Saturday from 4:00p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Harry Potter Movie Trivia

“Mischief managed”. Join us for FIVE rounds of witchcraft and wizardry at Harry Potter (Movie) Trivia. The best way to reserve tickets is by selecting a team captain and having them be in charge of tickets for ALL team members, or reserve single tickets if you’re playing by yourself. Friday, Oct. 14, 8:30 p.m. at Rockaway Bazaar. Saturday, Oct.15, 4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at The Wolfhound. 

The Ridgewood Asylum

Come experience true horror as you try to escape this fun, interactive haunted house with your friends and family! If you are able to escape you will end up in The Deep End bar & restaurant, where a menu of delicious food & full bar will be open.
