A new recruitment video, as part of a new “Be the Change” campaign, could help boost 104COP membership numbers.

The 104th Precinct Civilian Observation Patrol officially shared its new recruitment video with the public during its May 11 general membership meeting inside the Christ The King High School in Middle Village.

The 46-second long video showcases 104COP (G-COP) members out on patrol, canvassing neighborhoods in the confines of the NYPD’s 104th Precinct and communicating directly with community affairs officers.

“The thought is, everyone’s talking about something that needs to change. Well, why not be the change that needs to take place?” said 104COP member Daniel Klaus, who began spearheading the group’s marketing efforts in recent months.

Later into the meeting, 1st Vice President of 104COP Walter Clayton Jr., who led the monthly meeting in the absence of President Elizabeth Delacruz alongside Secretary Ronnie Roth, had the honor of officially welcoming the newly voted member, Eric Li, to their ranks.

The 24-year-old Ridgewood resident was appointed to Unit 2-9 after successfully passing the required six patrols needed to become a full-fledged member. Li works for Amazon Web Services by day but he is also running for 104COP treasurer in the group’s upcoming elections.

“If you’re interested in what’s happening in the community, this is a great opportunity,” Li said. “It’s a great opportunity for you to hear directly from the NCOs that come in or to hear directly from the politicians that provide funding for the organization. Then you can also bring in your perspective of what you’re seeing.”

The 104th Precinct NCOs, with NCO Supervisor Ricardo Roman, gave a brief update on resilient crime patterns for the sector, including grand theft auto and grand larceny auto crimes. Officers said Glendale has seen a majority of car related crime incidents. No elected officials or representatives were present.

104COP serves the neighborhoods of Glendale, Middle Village, Maspeth and Ridgewood.
