Council Member Robert Holden praised the success of a recent operation targeting illegal scooters and mopeds, which took place on Nov. 19.
The operation was a collaboration between the Queens District Attorney’s office, the NYPD’s 104th Precinct, the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (NYS DMV), and the New York State Police.
The Joint Illegal Scooter Initiative focused on Myrtle Avenue in Glendale and Ridgewood, resulting in the seizure of 22 illegal scooters and mopeds. Among the seized vehicles, 15 were confiscated from a shop in Ridgewood that was selling unauthorized scooters and mopeds.
In addition to the vehicle seizures, three summonses were issued during the operation: one moving violation summons under the Vehicle and Traffic Law (VTL) and two OATH summonses. Although no arrests were made, the operation underscored a commitment to addressing the dangers posed by unregulated scooters and mopeds on local streets.
“This operation is a significant step in reclaiming our streets and ensuring the safety of our residents,” said Holden. “I want to thank Chief Robert LaPollo of the Queens DA’s Detective Bureau and the detectives within the DA’s office for their dedication to keeping our streets and sidewalks clear of this growing menace. Their commitment, alongside the work of the 104th Precinct and state partners, makes a real difference. And this is just the beginning—there is much more to come!”

Future operations are set to target Grand Avenue in Elmhurst and Maspeth, Metropolitan Avenue in Maspeth, Ridgewood and Middle Village, Fresh Pond Road in Ridgewood and Maspeth, 63rd Drive in Rego Park, and Woodhaven Boulevard in Middle Village and Rego Park.
“We’re not stopping here,” Holden added. “These dangerous vehicles have no place in our community. I look forward to seeing continued efforts to protect our neighborhoods and ensure the safety of everyone who lives, works, and visits here.”
