SpringFest turns St. Albans park into a playground of springtime fun.
Families from across Southeast Queens gathered at Archie Spigner Park on Merrick Blvd. on Saturday, April 19, for Council Member Dr. Nantasha Williams’ 4th Annual SpringFest Family Fun Day & Egg Hunt.
From noon to 4 p.m., children and parents enjoyed a full slate of activities, including an egg hunt, pony rides, aerial acrobatics, face painting, arts and crafts, and friendly competitions like a spelling bee and a double-dutch jump rope contest. The event was co-hosted by State Senator Leroy Comrie, Assembly Member Alicia Hyndman, NYC Parks, the Southern Queens Park Association (SQPA), and local nonprofit Believe at Bellaire Inc.

“SpringFest is one of my favorite events of the year because it brings together our community in a fun and meaningful way,” said Williams, who represents District 27, which includes the neighborhoods of Cambria Heights, Hollis, Jamaica, St. Albans, and Springfield Gardens. “It’s always a privilege to offer families the chance to enjoy an afternoon of entertainment while connecting them with local resources that can help improve their lives.”

This year’s SpringFest drew participation from more than 20 community-based organizations and city agencies, which provided information and resources related to education, public health, housing, youth programs, and more. The event’s focus was on connecting residents to services while creating a festive and inclusive environment.

“SpringFest is a true reflection of what makes Southeast Queens special—families coming together, young people being celebrated, and community resources being shared,” said Comrie. “I’m proud to support this event each year and commend Council Member Williams for her continued leadership in creating spaces that uplift and serve our neighborhoods.”
The Southern Queens Park Association, which manages and programs the space at Archie Spigner Park, praised the event’s role in fostering community connections.

“SpringFest is more than just a day of fun—it’s a beautiful reminder of what we can accomplish when we come together as a community,” said Jermaine Sean Smith, Executive Director of SQPA. “We’re proud to partner with leaders like Council Member Dr. Nantasha Williams to create spaces where families feel seen, supported, and celebrated.”
Lateya Carter, founder of Believe at Bellaire Inc., which helped host the talent show, pizza-eating contest, and spelling bee, echoed that sentiment.
“These activities create exciting opportunities for young people to showcase their talents, have fun, and build confidence in a positive, community-friendly environment,” Carter said. “We are proud of [Council Member Williams’] continuous commitment to building a better community.”
