Summer is quickly approaching. Soon enough the sun’s rays will start to beat down on the hot pavement and you’ll be looking for a way to beat the heat.
A quick and easy way to cool down this summer is to head to a local beach or pool. Rockaway Beach is a local favorite that has a boardwalk that’s open all year. Swimming season officially starts on May 27 and the beach will have lifeguards on duty from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
If you’re willing to go beyond Queens to spend the day at the beach, there are plenty of beaches on Long Island that will be opening up on Memorial Day weekend.
Jones Beach isn’t just a great place for concerts. There’s plenty of things to do at Jones Beach that will keep you and your family occupied for the whole day. Other beaches to consider if you’re willing to go the distance are Sunken Meadow and Long Beach. Both open back up for swimming on Memorial Day weekend and are a great place to spend the day with the family. If you’re not a fan of sand or salt water, don’t fret! There are a number of pools that will be opening up next month all around the borough. The following pools will be open starting on June 29:

- Fisher Pool, 99th Street and 32nd Avenue
- Fort Totten Pool, 338 Story Avenue
- Liberty Pool, 173rd Street and 106th Avenue
- Marie Curie Park Pool, 211th Street & 46th Avenue
- PS 10 Pool, 45th Street and 30th Road
- PS 186 Playground Pool, Little Neck Parkway and 72nd Avenue
- Windmuller Pool, 54th Street and 39th Road
All city pools are open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
