Yorki Munoz’s 48th place finish led the College Point Road Runners Track Club to ninth place in the Club Championship road race that stayed within Manhattan’s Central Park last Saturday morning.
In the process, Munoz set a personal best time for five miles of 26:40 and led his team to 1561 points.
“I ran two races back-to-back Friday night,” the Jackson Heights resident said. “Today I feel much better and at the same time I’m very happy and very proud of my teammates.”
Westchester Puma’s Track Club won the title with 83 markers in a field of 17 clubs.
Quantum Feet Road Runners, led by Lisa Haunes’ 26:43, for 108th place in the female race of the Club Championship, scored 842 points for 15th place. Meanwhile, 55-year-old Julio Aguirre finished first in his age group and 179th overall with a 30:12 clocking and led the College Point Road Runners Club to 1454 points and 13th place for the Masters Men title, four places ahead of Quantum Feet’s 2291 points.
The CPRRTC scored 907 points for eighth place in the Senior Masters Men category.
On the previous evening in the fourth and last of the CPRR’s summer series of 5K races in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Munoz was clocked in 16:34 for fourth place, behind winner Jacob Perez (16:13), Len Chalco (16:19) and Bryant Cherry-Woode (16:28).
The first female to cross the finish line was Indira Sotomeyer, of Manhattan, who completed the course in 20:46 for 23 place overall.
