JAMAICA – A Jamaica man was arrested Friday in connection with three cases of sexual assault and one case of attempted robbery that happened in April this year and March 1998, said police.
Leroy People, 21, of 102-48 184 St. was charged with two counts each of rape, sodomy and robbery, and one count of kidnapping, police said.
The first case of rape occurred on March 7, 1998, when a 46-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in the vicinity of 102nd Avenue and 186th Street in Jamaica, police said.
The 1998 rape case was linked by DNA evidence to three incidents that happened in April this year.
In the first incident, a 57-year-old who was waiting at a bus stop at 193rd Road and Jamaica Ave. on April 7 at 5:45 a.m. was taken to an isolated location by a man with a gun, where she was sexually assaulted and robbed, police said.
In the second incident, a 61-year-old woman was standing at the corner of Liberty Ave. and 187th Street on April 23 at 5:50 a.m. when she was approached by a man with a gun who attempted to drag the woman into a driveway, police said. The woman yelled for help, and the man fled.
In the third incident, a 60-year-old woman was waiting at a bus stop at the corner of Liberty Avenue and Camden Avenue on April 25 at 5:15 a.m. when a man with a gun approached her and took her to an isolated location, where she was sexually assaulted and robbed, police said.
COLLEGE POINT — A College Point man has been charged with stabbing the mother of his baby and then throwing the knife in the direction of the child, authorities said.
The 45-year-old man began attacking the woman in the early morning of June 9, according to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown. He pushed, struck and punched her before stabbing her in the arm, the district attorney said.
He then threw the knife in the direction of the 10-month-old baby, nearly striking his own child, the district attorney said.
The father was arrested and arraigned later that day, the district attorney said.
An order of protection for the mother was issued, the district attorney said.
BROOKLYN – A Flushing man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after driving a 1998 Ford van into the East River around North 14th Street and Kent Avenue last Thursday, police said.
Marian Kowal, 40, was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition after being removed from the water, police said. There were no other occupants in the vehicle, and an investigation was ongoing.
KEW GARDENS HILLS – A man robbed an Astoria Federal Savings branch at 71-20 Kissena Blvd. at 1:25 p.m. Monday by passing a note demanding money to a teller, police said.
The man fled the scene with an unknown amount of cash, police said.

JAMAICA – Police are looking for a 30-year-old suspect who entered a North Fork Bank at 146-21 Jamaica Ave. on Feb. 13, passed a note to a teller demanding money, and fled with an undetermined amount of cash.
The suspect is described by police as a 6-foot-1 to 6-foot-4, 200-pound man with a mustache, beard, sideburns and possibly bad teeth. The man was wearing a black jacket and knit hat, said police.
No arrests have been made so far, and the investigation is continuing, police said.
JAMAICA – Two swastikas were found spray-painted on the front of Hillcrest High School at 160-05 Highland Ave. about 8 a.m. Monday, police said.
No arrests were made and an investigation was ongoing.
ST. ALBANS – A 24-year-old man was shot in the chest in a drive-by shooting late Saturday as he sat in front of 192-16 119th Ave., police said.
He told police he heard a shot as a gray BMW drove by the location about 11:05 p.m. He then felt a pain in his chest and realized he had been wounded.
He was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital in serious condition, police said.
No arrests were made and an investigation was ongoing.
JAMAICA — A police officer from the 103rd Precinct was suspended Monday for an assault that occurred in Nassau County on Saturday, police said.
Officer David Ellison was suspended from duty on authority of Chief Calhoun, police said.
KEW GARDENS — A 35-year-old Yonkers man pleaded guilty to medical insurance fraud and admitted he falsely posed as a licensed neurologist in a scheme that netted $10,000 from an insurance company, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said Tuesday.
John Yi, of 28 Armstrong Ave., participated in the plot along with other alleged accomplices Arthur Luban, 79, of Brooklyn and Richard Yaldizian, 49, of Ozone Park, Brown said. The scheme took place in Elmhurst, the district attorney said.
The other two men are awaiting further court proceedings that will take place June 23.
OZONE PARK – A man wearing a blue T-shirt, black jeans, grey sneakers and a blue baseball cap robbed the North Fork Bank at 114-19 Liberty Ave. of about $3,000 cash about 12:15 p.m. Monday, police said. He handed a note to a teller and demanded money, police said.
No injuries were reported.
There were no arrests made and an investigation was ongoing, police said.
JACKSON HEIGHTS – A Jackson Heights man was arrested on murder charges following the discovery of the body of a 23-year-old woman on June 1.
Police found the woman’s body about 6 p.m. at East 130th Street and 5th Avenue in Manhattan.
Oscar Pilamunga, 24, of 98-01 37 Ave. was charged with murder, police said.
OZONE PARK – A 30-year-old man robbed a North Fork Bank at 111-18 Liberty Ave. about 11:45 a.m. Saturday, passing a note to a teller demanding money, police said.
The man fled with about $500, police said.
No arrests were made and an investigation was ongoing.
LONG ISLAND CITY – A PS 122 teacher was arrested about 4:55 p.m. last Thursday on charges of criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.
The teacher was identified as Helen Epanomitis, 27, police said.
REGO PARK – A 47-year-old woman was discovered dead in front of 105-24 63rd Rd. about 1 p.m. last Thursday, said police. A medical examiner was to determine the cause of death.
JACKSON HEIGHTS — A 16-year-old died of a single gunshot wound to the head Tuesday night, police said.
Alejandro Brito of Elmhurst was shot in front of 86-11 Whitney Ave. by an unknown assailant, police said.
He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition but died of his injuries, police said. No motive was known, no arrests were made and the investigation was ongoing.
LONG ISLAND CITY – A city corrections officer was arrested Tuesday and charged with menacing, police said.
Officer Jeffrey Obrenski, 40, was arrested in the confines of the 108th Precinct.
