I read with great interest your February 23rd article about cell phone antennas. The American Cancer Society may think they’re safe. However my concern is how they affect pacemaker wearers. I have been told that my newest model (2 years old) is shielded from the effects of microwave ovens. At the same time I have been instructed not to carry or use my cell phone anywhere near my pacemaker. I must use the ear furthest from it and usually carry the phone in my purse. Your explanation of the electromagnetic spectrum confuses me even further as I can not have an M.R.I., but do have frequent cat scans and x-rays. My dentist can’t use the ultrasound to clean my teeth. I’m also not to use an arc welder or lean over the engine of a running automobile (something about the catalytic converter).
