In Favor Of Wal-Mart

About your recent article regarding Wal-Mart in Flushing. I believe any store such as Wal-Mart, Stein-Mart, Kohl’s etc. would be a blessing. Downtown Flushing is deplorable and a store that you can read the name of would be an asset.

Courier Is Sponsor Of Light The Night Walk
I would like to thank you for becoming a sponsor of the annual Light The Night Walk. Your support in the past has helped tremendously in reaching new goals. After reading your online feature titled “The Birth of a Newspaper,” I now have a greater understanding of The Queens Courier’s mission and why you are so involved in supporting programs like Light The Night. This year we are also honored to have the support of Queens Borough President Helen Marshall, who is assisting in our effort. It is my goal to do everything possible to promote Light The Night Walk in the borough of Queens. Last year you were a significant part in the success of this effort and we thank you greatly.
This year continued support from The Queens Courier will enable Light The Night Walk to grow through broader outreach in the Queens community. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is one of the leading voluntary health agencies in the United States, with 75% of every dollar going directly to mission-related services in research, patient services, education, and advocacy.
I enjoyed meeting you at the “Queens Top Women in Business” networking event and thank you again for all your support.

Illegal Immigrants Not His Cup Of Tea
To those bleeding hearts who feel so much for the illegal immigrants but are very hard on their own country, I would remind them that of the 191 members of the United Nations (two have questionable status); the USA is the only country that has accepted more immigrants than all the other nations combined. Yes, we have welcomed with open arms more immigrants than all other nations combined. So don’t tell me we’re not a compassionate nation. We are always among the very first nations who respond to worldwide disasters.
If your heart still bleeds for illegal immigrants, I suggest you take a trip to any of their countries and see firsthand how you are treated as an illegal immigrant. I’m almost certain you would be given the identical benefits that they receive here. If you think that, then I’m positive the world is flat.
Where have you folks been all these years? Don’t you know we are a land of laws that go all the way back to the Mayflower Compact of 1620? The first settlers wrote a document on how the community should run - all violators were dealt with harshly. There cannot be exceptions or selective laws.

One Wal-Mart Fan Speaks Out!
Dear Councilman Liu:
I do not know whom you were speaking for when you said that Wal-Mart is not welcome where Caldor was in downtown Flushing.
I have shopped at Wal-Mart stores and find they are good for the residents. The store is not a cash business. Therefore, it collects sales tax and pays income tax as well as corporate taxes. The selection is good, the prices are good, the sales staff is friendly and helpful, the store stands behind the products it sells, and the signs are in English.

Good Advice For Everyone
Life is like a book with many different chapters; some tell of tragedy and others of triumph. Some chapters are dull and ordinary, others intense and exciting. The key to being a success in life is to never stop on a difficult page, to never quit on a tough chapter. Champions have the courage to keep turning the pages because they know a better chapter lies ahead.
