Bravo to the members of the Queens Vice squad for acting on tips from the neighbors along Bayside Ave. in Flushing about unusual activity at a rented private house.
The Queens Vice squad detectives kept the corner house under surveillance for nine days and then entered the property at 151-04 on the quiet tree-lined block. Inside they found five Korean women, including a “madam” who allegedly offered the undercover cops their choice of four younger women for $200 in cash. The transaction was not completed and they arrested the four younger women on charges of prostitution and the “madam” for promoting prostitution.
We applaud the police for their work to remove another brothel from a quiet residential neighborhood but we want to congratulate the neighbors on the block who reported suspicious activity to their local police who then acted on their information.
In another Flushing neighborhood, officers of the 109 Precinct, following tips and complaints from residents, executed a search warrant and raided an apartment at 41-11 Parsons Blvd. Once inside apartment 107, they arrested a mother and her two adult children on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia.
As homeowners, apartment dwellers and neighbors, we must all keep a watch on our buildings and blocks to eradicate crime from our streets. Report all suspicious behavior to your local police, graffiti is a crime; selling drugs is a crime; stealing cars is a crime; vandalism is a crime; burglary is a crime.
You are the first line of defense against crime from inside your homes.
Bloomy 4 President!
The Queens Courier, the first newspaper in New York to endorse Michael Bloomberg for mayor, is proud to endorse him again for the highest office in the land - President of the United States.
Okay, you can GASP now!
Yes you can stammer - But! But! But! He’s not running - Is he?
Well most candidates go out of state to test the waters in primaries. Some candidates go out of state to announce their national intentions.
Mayor Mike “joked” about a run for president this weekend at a fund-raiser for Rep. Christopher Shays in Greenwich CT. When asked if he is thinking about a run for the oval office Bloomberg coyly said “Absolutely not,” playfully adding “And anybody who’s running will say exactly that.” Hmmm?
Well Mike - if you do decide to run - wink, wink - The Queens Courier will again be the first newspaper to endorse your political ambitions. Wink, wink!
