LIRR makes access to Shea easier

Mets fans traveling from southeast Queens or Long Island will have an even easier time getting to Shea Stadium in Flushing to watch the National League's best team, thanks to the MTA's Long Island Rail Road (LIRR).
The LIRR has added the Woodside stop to eight westbound main line trains, offering customers the chance to connect with a Port Washington branch train which stops at Shea.
&#8220By adding the Woodside stop to the eight westbound main line trains, we are providing more opportunities for fans traveling from other branches of the LIRR to connect with Port Washington trains to Shea Stadium,” said LIRR spokesman Sam Zambuto.
Waiting times for connections at Woodside to Shea Stadium range from one to 31 minutes. Each trip takes five minutes on average.
Because Shea Stadium is in Zone 1, tickets from outside that zone are still valid to Shea, but passengers must retain their ticket stubs and inform ticket collectors of their intention to travel there.
The LIRR is also offering a special family fare for trips to see the Mets. Children, ages 5-11, can ride the train for only 75 cents when purchasing ticket at a ticket office or from a machine during off-peak hours, when accompanied by an adult playing the regular fare. Parents with monthly tickets can receive the children's rate with that ticket. The family fare is $1 per child if purchased on-board the train. During peak hours, the child fare is one-half the regular one-way fare. Children under five ride free at all times.
