Health Expo was a great success

When Auburndale resident Sally Chin arrived at the sixth annual Queens Courier Health, Fitness and Wellness Expo on Sunday, November 5, she immediately signed up for one of 50 free flu shots administered by a nurse from The New Parkway Hospital.
&#8220That wasn't too bad,” she said as she gratefully prepared to make the rounds of some 37 vendors and participants at the Health Expo, held at the Sheraton LaGuardia East hotel in downtown Flushing.
&#8220We have partnered with the Sheraton LaGuardia East in Flushing to bring a valuable service to our readers. We are grateful to our other partners and the large turnout. It was a great day,” said Victoria Schneps-Yunis, publisher of The Queens Courier and Healthwise Magazine. She also praised the Expo's other corporate sponsors: New York Hospital Queens (NYHQ), The New Parkway Hospital, Parker Jewish Institute, WellCare, Liberty Health Advantage, Touchstone Health Partnership, Inc., and Privilege Care.
&#8220This is a great event. I couldn't have handled more people. It gave me pleasure to see the smiles on the people I helped,” said Steven Teicher, director of marketing for SeniorCare Emergency Medical Services, which is affiliated with The New Parkway Hospital.
Eight speakers delivered talks throughout the day-long Expo on topics ranging from getting extra help to pay for Medicare Part D from Joe LaPointe of Touchstone Health Partnership Inc., to information about Chinese adult day health care programs from Lynn Lin, marketing liaison for Parker Jewish Institute. The Heart health was discussed by cardiac nurse Ellen Sannuto, an R.N. at New York Hospital Queens. Fred Stewart, vice president for Marketing and New Business Development at The New Parkway Hospital, told Expo attendees about VIP Ambulance Access Service, which provides EMTs with contact information for loved ones, hospital preferences, and medical information.
Top Notch Training founder and author of Spiritual Selling, Joe Nunziata inspired passersby to take control of their destiny by removing mental barriers that prevent success. Nunziata's talk drew a large crowd of both attendees and vendors, who listened to how Nunziata had transformed his own life and now works to inspire others.
Tony Chiarelli from WellCare reminded attendees that beginning on Wednesday, November 15, Medicare Part D beneficiaries are allowed to switch plans through Monday, January 1, 2007. WellCare, he said, is one of the 10 companies sanctioned by the federal government to provide prescription drug coverage through Medicare Part D.
During the final lecture of the Expo, Charles Farley, an R.N. at The New Parkway Hospital, described his experience with gastric bypass surgery, which helped him lose more than 177 pounds over the past 19 months.
