YMCA honors Assemblymember Meng

The YMCA of Flushing/Bayside paid tribute to Assemblymember Jimmy Meng at its annual Awards Dinner on Thursday, November 9. Meng was presented with the YMCA Community Service award for his professional and personal contributions to New York City communities.
One hundred and fifty guests including New York City Councilman, John Liu listened as tributes to Meng were read out from Senator Hillary Clinton, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Senator Frank Padavan and others.
As well as a dinner, there were performances from students enrolled in local YMCA programs. Junior High School 189 Beacon program staged a performance of hip-hop dancing, and Caitlin Locurto, a student at Flushing High School, gave a violin performance.
&#8220The annual Award Dinner is our principal fundraiser,” Jean Vesnaver, Executive Assistant, Flushing YMCA said. The money raised goes to provide scholarships for needy children in the area. The evening was capped off by a slide show of Assemblymember Meng's visits to the YMCA and photos of him engaged in community work.
&#8220It was a touching and heartwarming evening,” said Grace Meng, Meng's daughter and District Office manager.
