Claudette L. Bacchus

Claudette L. Bacchus, 64, beloved mother, teacher, and missionary, passed away on July 12 from complications after a short illness.
Born on January 10, 1943 in Guyana, she was one of the loving children of the late Dorothy and Randolph Witherspoon.
She grew up partly in Rupanuni and Georgetown, where she became a teacher and mentor to many.
Bacchus attended Bible school in Hararuni, serving as one of the pioneers for Full Gospel.
She was always involved in music and the choir. She loved to sing and loved children. Bacchus continued her studies and graduated with a degree in teaching from Medgar Evers College in 1999.
She was an active teacher at the Full Gospel and the “Y” before a disability forced her to retire.
Bacchus is survived by her sons Daniel L. and Steven Winter; her brothers, The Reverend Michael Bacchus, Lanny, and Ashton; sister Myrna; nieces Marilyn, Marsha, and Vanessa; nephews Ian, Michael, Matthew, Milton, Mark, and Marlon; and her adopted sons and daughters, Karen, April, and Jonell, among many others.
Editor’s note: Bacchus is the aunt of The Queens Courier’s Happenings Editor. We extend our deepest condolences.
