ASPCA holds Valentine’s fundraiser

People love their pets and they love to take pictures of their four legged friends. On Friday, February 1 and Saturday, February 2 the ASPCA will host a Valentine “FUR-tography” Fundraiser at the organization’s Manhattan headquarters from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Photographer Geoffrey Tischman will be taking pictures for a $75 donation to the ASPCA. For the donation, every participant will receive a 30-minute sitting and a free 5 x 7 photo.
Tischman, whose photos of pets adopted from the ASPCA are featured in the exhibit, “ASPCA Families: Celebrating Pets & Their People,” will donate 50 percent of the sale of all custom prints and Valentine’s Day cards to the ASPCA.
“I do two photo fundraisers a year for a ballet company and it occurred to me this year that it might be a good event to do for the ASPCA,” said Mr. Tischman, “We did a fundraiser this past November and it was a big success so we are planning to do several a year.”
ASPCA President and Chief Executive Officer, Ed Sayres, agrees with Tischman. “This is a unique way for New Yorkers to showcase their own pets while benefiting homeless animals at the same time,” said Sayres. “Plus, at the ASPCA, we always enjoy meeting our human and furry neighbors.”
The event, which has already begun taking reservations, has attracted a big name in the animal world. David Frei, the long-time co-host of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, who will be sitting with his beloved Brittanys - Teigh and Belle.
“The ASPCA’s Valentine’s Day fundraiser is a terrific opportunity to celebrate our love for animals - not just our own, but also those who are homeless,” said Mr. Frei.
If you would like to schedule a sitting, the ASPCA asks that you call 212-876-7700, Ext. 4586 to make a reservation. Appointments are first come, first serve and animals confirmed for photographs will need to be spayed/neutered and up to date on all vaccinations.
Cats are required to be in carriers and dogs must be on leashes. The ASPCA asks that customers arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before the appointment and that everyone brings their own props/costume/hair and make-up.
