Nominate a friend to be honored

The Bank of America Charitable Foundation is now accepting nominations for recipients of its Neighborhood Excellence Initiative (NEI).
This marks the fifth year that the Bank of America Charitable Foundation has held NEI throughout the nation. It is the fourth year that the Long Island Chapter has participated in it.
NEI gives out three different types of awards - Neighborhood Builders, Local Heroes and Students Leaders. Two Neighborhood Builders awards are given out by each chapter to local non-profit organizations. The award comes with a $200,000 grant.
Additionally, five Local Heroes awards are given out, which are accompanied by $5,000 donations to a non-profit of the recipients choosing. Those chosen for the honor are people “who have shown strong dedication to improving their communities through community service.”
The Student Leaders awards are given to five high school students “who have demonstrated a commitment to community service and leadership.” The winners receive a trip to Washington, D.C., where they take part in leadership training and eight-week-long summer internships.
The deadline for submissions for Student Leaders awards is February 29. The deadline is June 27 for Neighbor Builders and Local Heroes. Winners will be selected by local selection committees.
For 2008, the Bank of American Charitable Foundation will donate more than $20 million through the Neighborhood Excellence Initiative.
