Dwarf Giraffe basketball roundup

The Dwarf Giraffe Athletic League’s girls minor division started the week off with a thriller of a game between Five Guys and Bonniebrite Cleaners, a game that finished in a 23-23 overtime tie. Only one basket separated the teams the entire way. It turned into a battle of defenses. Kaitlyn Brennan and Paridhi Sonkiya battled back and forth setting the pace of the game. Regina Nicholson took charge for Bonniebrite, but in the end, Katarina Lipotica showed no quit for Five Guys.
B&M Auto took the lead in the first quarter and held on for the win against Glover Floors, 31-19, in girls senior division action. Jessica Piccolino led all scorers with 12 points, Christa Li Trenta contributed eight points and Katie McGrory scored five points. For Glover Floors, Sara Friedman and Donna Wylie played a solid game all around. Stephanie Camilleri and Dana Kettenring were aggressive under the boards, finishing with seven and six points, respectively. Sara Ho, Christina Wylie and Christina Tegerides each netted 2 points. Varsi Deli topped Cascarinos, 25-19, and North Fork Bank beat Cascarinos, 25-17, in other games.
In the boys minor division, Memorial Park topped Cherry Valley Deli. Thomas Tockarshewsky had 19 points to lead all scorers. Connor Bacci added 10 points and three steals, James Callahan had seven points and John Romano led all rebounders with eight. Cherry Valley was led by Mike Strassberg with six points and five steals. Adam Stumpf had 10 points as well. In other action, J.D. Opticians prevailed over Whitestone Hardware, 48-47, and DePhillips Sports bested Whitestone Hardware, 28-12.
The younger boys bantam division entertained everyone with a thrilling game as Pizza Chef edged Equinox Protection, 46-44. Timmy Regan scored the winning hoop with time running out to secure the victory.
In boys major division action, Cascarinos beat Patriot Waste, 65-56, Legaz-Keller Williams Realty beat Lee’s Jewel Box, 44-41, and MCF Associates lost at the buzzer to Legaz-Keller Williams Realty, 48-47.
