Geraldo honored as Best Man of the Year

While celebrating the accomplishments of women in the borough during the Sixth Annual Top Women in Business awards dinner, The Queens Courier and Queens Business Today will also honor Geraldo Rivera with the Best Man of the Year Award on Thursday, March 13.
Currently the host of “Geraldo at Large” on the FOX News Channel, Rivera began his career in New York as a reporter for WABC-TV. It was during this time that he presented an award-winning series on Willowbrook State School for the mentally ill and its “deplorable conditions.” The series brought about a government investigation and the closing of the facility.
The Geraldo Rivera group home for children with disabilities opened in Little Neck in the 1970’s.
Rivera is also a veteran foreign correspondent and has covered many wars, including the Yom Kippur War, civil wars in Guatemala, the Philippines, and Colombia and conflicts in Lebanon, Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo. He covered Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Rivera, a graduate of the University of Arizona and Brooklyn Law School, initially joined FOX News Channel in November of 2001 as a war correspondent. His current show has been nationally syndicated by Twentieth Television.
Rivera’s work as a journalist has earned him more than 170 awards. In 2000 he received his third Robert F. Kennedy journalism award and the Scripps Howard Foundation national journalism award, which he has also won three times. He is also the recipient of the George Foster Peabody Award, multiple Emmys and two Columbia-DuPont awards.
The Sixth Annual Top Women in Business Networking Awards Dinner will begin Thursday, March 13 with a silent auction and networking at 5 p.m., followed by the formal presentation and dinner at 7 p.m. Proceeds from the silent auction will benefit Go Red for Women.
It will be held at Terrace on the Park, located at 52-11 111th Street in Corona.
