Math bee winner advances

Young scholars at the Immaculate Conception School in Jamaica Estates recently held their Math Bee, under the supervision of teacher Maureen Fortin (right.)
After an intense competition, on Monday, February 11, Shifa Kumamdam (second left) was declared the grand prize winner.
She will now compete against winners from the other Catholic schools in Queens.
The borough contest serves as an elimination round for the Brooklyn Diocese Math Competition, which pits top math performers from Brooklyn and Queens in a contest of math wits.
Kumamdam is joined here by (from left) third-place finisher, Jean-Charles Labardy, Roseanne Hernandez, who finished second, and the school’s principal, Dori Breen (center, second row).
